Directionally Challenged

Directionally Challenged

I suck at directions.  And I’m just like a guy when it comes down to asking for them.  You might as well even write down directions on a pad of paper for me before I drive 10 minutes to an easy destination and I’ll get as lost as Lilia when I throw a blanket over her head.  I need to down an ativan if I ever make it home.  Somehow, I get further away from my destination than I had started.. and that’s with your damn drawing or walking me through on the phone.  Ideally when this happens, I’d pahk my cah near the closest MBTA sign and take it back to my apartment to charge my battery (long story short: the lighter thing in my car burned my TomTom or at least made it smell like melting plastic and I don’t want to do the same thing to my phone).. and come back to my car the next day.  Totally makes sense, right?

Thank god for my HTC EVO and Google Maps.  I love this app.  Can’t live without it.. especially the traffic function.  Anyway, this is probably the reason I go through battery life like whoa.  Recently, I even had to upgrade to the extended battery.  This created a new problem:  Best Buy does not sell a car kit that fits the EVO with an extended battery.  BOO.  Even if they had a generic one, it would make my life a whole lot easier.  Instead, I have to hold the brick or wedge the damn thing in my dashboard.  I’m probably going to get pulled over sooner or later for “texting” b/c I keep fidgeting with it because it keeps sliding across my odometer (and other meters) to the floor and I have to lean over to pick it up at the next ::crossing fingers:: red light.

Lilia is in the back (my little sidekick) panting down my neck and drooling and I hope that she just doesn’t puke this time.  Don’t you hate it when dogs drool a gallon and you don’t notice it until they make hacking noises?  Carsickness sucks with dogs.  It’s not like she can poke me and say “Ma, I’m getting a bit sick over here, could you pull over for a minute?”  No.  This just means the 2nd detail of my crappy car in the past month.  I hate driving the thing to the car wash because I can just imagine the guys talking behind my back.  ”Why does she even bring this piece of sh*t here?  She’ll probably get less $ for it on Craiglist than this detail will cost her.”

I digress.  Anyway, I hate driving without directions.  I just started getting used to the T when my friend needed some social media help and he couldn’t afford to pay me so he gave me a 93 Mercury Grand Marquis :)  I jumped on that TomTom bandwagon when they were $500 for the first ones on NYE 2007.  I was on my way to Killington so there’s no way I’d go without either A. someone who was more directionally adequate than myself driving or B. some sort of mapping system.  I never looked back.  GPS is a lifesaver and a time saver..  Download the free Google Maps app on your smartphone and thank me later.  In the form of a comment It’s nice to see that I’m not just talking to myself here. ;)

FYI the Android Google Reader App is up and running.. which means you should really think about subscribing to my RSS feed.  And retweeting my posts ^^ see that little TweetMeme button.  Yah, click it for me every once in a while when you like posts and share it on Twitter for me, would you?

One more thing.. figured I’d try to illustrate my blog myself.. I may not do it again.  Clearly, I should be wearing a seatbelt in that picture and Lil should be drooling up a storm (and black and tan).  CLICK IT OR TICKET!

The Google Navigation app that’s comes pre-installed in beta version on Android phones is awesome. It gives you turn by turn GPS directions with the soothing voice just like a TomTom or Garmin.
