PSA: How to avoid African PayPal scams on Facebook

So it’s a good thing I had the internet on my side on this one. Apparently, if you send someone an invoice from PayPal, they pay, you send the goods and give them tracking information.. even when they DO receive the goods, they have a chance to revoke payment.

I mentioned that I was selling a camera on Facebook Marketplace, because I figured it would reach friends and friends of friends. Apparently, it reached some hacked or bogus users.

Their stories go like this: I am in the military or I am in the US but I need to ship this to my buddy/mom/sister over in S Africa/Nigeria/Somewhere in Africa so I am willing to pay an extra $100 to cover shipping expenses. Please send an invoice from PayPal to my Gmail/Hotmail account so I may pay you.

They pay, you ship, they receive, they revoke. You end up without your goods and without their money.

The only way to really combat this is sell on eBay, where you will qualify for seller protection or only take local payments. I may move my ads to Craigslist so eBay doesn’t take any of my earnings

I got my hair did, courtesy of CitySearch Boston

I love Christine from CitySearch. She rocks my world. Especially when I write a fun list and get to get my hair colored for FREE. At a salon on Boylston… well it wasn’t exactly free, I did leave a generous tip; but come ON, it’s not that bad when you get a color job from a Boylston hairdresser

First of all, I have to tell you I got my hair cut a few days beforehand by my stylist, Erez. He has a company: 4EG Hair Systems, LLC but he already let me know he didn’t want to be famous, so I shall say no more.. only post a few “before color” photos after my Tuesday appointment with him..

So I got this cute Toni & Guy cut and I went up to NH to tap some maple tree a$. Good stuff, see?

Thursday the 8th rolls around and I walk into Sassoon Salon after meeting with a potential client to chat about his social media endeavors in the AM over iced tea @ Teavana in the Pru and a small bite to eat (yummy sweet potato fries) and a glass of KJ Chard @ Joe’s on Newbury. This is what I looked like when they put me in a chair. Kind of fluffy and faded >>

Luckily, I was about to meet Richie, who was going to take me on my ride to colorville. First, I chatted with Danny, who promptly offered me some green tea (keep em coming), and he told me he is a shampooist training under Richie. Later on I found out that it takes about 2 years to get to the point of a stylist or colorist and they have to go through about 8 tests before becoming a full time full blown employee over there. Kudos to them. They even offer free styles and cuts to models just walking on the street.

PROTIP: If you have nothing better to do during the day and you need an updated look, slowly walk past some salons in Back Bay.. or just stop in and ask if they need models. They’ve got TONS of people training and they can’t technically charge until they’re full blown stylists! (but tip them well ladies.. and gents)

Sooner than later, Richie came over and introduced himself and asked me what I wanted to do. I asked him for a demi copper but I wanted some real blonde highlights so he decided to do it all in a single process; rather than the double process he was thinking about. I don’t want no apricot highlights! I want some crazy punkness. It’s been a while

So.. I started to get some foils.. seems like he only really did them in the front though… O.o I wasn’t going to say anything b/c hey, it’s free… Then he covered the rest of my dull hair with the copper demi (probably a level 7)

After I got colored, Edward took over. He’s like this master blowout specialist who travels the world in search of the perfect blowout.. or something. And this is what I ended up looking like after everythign was said and done!

Good stuff. It’s really vibrant and you have to see it in the light. Kind of stands out. And it’s damn sexy.

A few things: I wish I had a chance to say goodbye to Richie after I got blown out, but he kind of like disappeared. And I wish the manager, Anthony, was there so I could have thanked him in person. At least he gets this blog post. Thank you Sassoon Salon! Thank you Christine @CitySearchBOS and Thank you my hair for not being super porous so it was able to do all these fun things

Here are a few other shots I took of the salon. They carry Kerastas, use Wella color since Sassoon color isn’t allowed in the US, and have the GHD iron. I love my pink GHD. Totally worth it for a Good Hair Day

Yes, My dog belongs in a straight jacket

But that’s not going to shut me down. As I shout at her to stop chasing shadows, drooling on my floor so I have to mop it up every 15 minutes, I realize that it’s kind of a hindrance on my daily life and my new business/career.

She’s got to go.

She apparently can’t be helped. If anybody out there in the interwebs knows of a place for a special needs dog where she’s not going to be put down or beaten, please let me know. I really can’t help her and I thought I could. The only time she’s still is when I’m sleeping.

I got a new toy :)

I JUST picked up a new Kodak PlaySport in Abyss from the Best Buy in Back Bay

Problem is: It doesn’t come with ANY internal memory. OK, it gives me 30 seconds in WVGA, 6 in 1080, but my 8GB SDHC card is coming in today from Newegg.. along with my 2 TB hard drive, USB dongle (LOVE that word) and tripod. heh. I’m going to have to wait a few hours. At least it takes like 2 days to get the majority of my Newegg stuff in after ordering

Newegg seems to be having sick sales every day recently. Here’s today’s dealios.

My letter to Cesar Milan

Hello,

Thank you for reading in advance.

I have a hyperactive, OCD, aggressive puppy. At 1 year, 2 months, I thought she’d “grow out” of this behavior by now. I got her from one of those Craigslist no-kill shelter ads and picked her up in CT back in May of 2009. She is SUPER healthy, but that’s probably because she never stops moving… The point is, I want to enjoy the company of my Lilia. I tend to loathe her when she’s licking the floor or drooling @ the same spot on the wall for 10 minutes and I just want a companion. That’s what I signed up for.

She isn’t my first dog. I’ve (and my family) has had numerous dogs that we’ve been able to train from square one or even from adult age, to an extent. Lil just doesn’t seem to let me hold her attention for more than a minute.

And that’s what kills me: she’s super-smart, knows tons of basic commands and even catches like a pro. I just feel like I can’t work her out the way she needs to be in order to keep her grounded. Even when I do take her for 1-2 mile jogs, she’s not pooped and I very well am!

So this is my normal morning: I start stirring in bed between 6 and 7a, and she wakes up as soon as I start flipping and stares at me until our eyes meet. IF I actually open up my eyes and make contact, she gets wicked hyper and knows it’s time to go out then breakfast. She’s super-structured in her feeding schedule and I know that one look from her means she needs to go outside. No whining, she’s good like that.

But then I let her out. At some time earlier than 8a.. and she starts barking @ anybody walking by my yard. And I live next to a high school. It’s unreal. I say “breakfast” and she comes running in and gets my floor all muddy before I can grab her by the collar and wipe her paws. Every time. I have a Swiffer Wet by the door.

I tell her to sit on her chaise and she does, DROOLING, and I get her cup and her 2 pills of Clomacalm b/c I thought this would help, which it hasn’t yet, and she stays until I say “okay.” Then she dashes and slides across the room into her bowl and knocks it over 1/2 the time.

She’s only about a 60# dog, so it’s not like you’d think she could do so much damage, but you have no idea. She’s ripped my bed 1/2way across the room before.. and I have a king temperpedic.. that thing’s HEAVY! She’s eaten corners of my really nice microfiber couches. She ate a whole cushion on my old leather sofa I no longer possess b/c of it. It’s really beginning to get out of control.

My biggest issue is her fixation on shiny things. I mean, she IS a female but this is out of control. Anything that glints on the floor or has a shadow that a glint could be against, she chases. She drools. She licks my floor. She barks in frustration because she can NEVER CATCH IT. It’s heartbreaking to some extent and I really wish to cure her of it but I can’t keep her attention for long.

I’d like to say money isn’t an issue when it comes to training her, but I am currently unemployed and I thought that the time we’d spend together would at least help get some of the energy out of her. I was mistaken and now I’m asking for help. I don’t want to give her up. I love her and I am willing to keep the responsibility/commitment I made to her as her mommy. Sometimes there is a bit of love, personality.. But it’s hard to hold her tight enough to keep her still for long unless I’m asleep.

3/11/10 and I’m still off of Twitter..

Wtf?

I wrote to them, replied to the email saying my ban would get lifted and even tried bribing them to get me back on and I’m still off. #PITA

It’s hard for me to just talk on my BeantownSocialite.com. There isn’t as enough engagement and I’m really going crazy not being able to talk to 13k strangers about my personal life. Is that so much to ask? So NOW I’m just going to have to vent about life on my blog. Guess that’s what you’re here for too, right?

Social media and all that comes with it has been pretty fast and serious for me lately. Unfortunately, my clients need to create WEEKLY CONTENT in order for me to work my magic effectively. It’s fun when it works, and believe me honey, I can make it work, but it’s up to YOU, the expert in YOUR FIELD to get me the info I need.

Social media…

I’m getting my hands dirty learning how to edit WordPress CSS. It’s not too hard to figure out; there are many sources on the web just by Googling it. Interesting stuff with customized headers, cool widgets and plug ins and I think I’ve seen EVERY SINGLE WordPress theme ever imaginable over the past week. It took a while to figure out what I really wanted to use for LynnMurphy.tv, and I’m still not completely set with what I’m doing yet, but watch for it to go live within the next two weeks.

CoupMe.com apparently has a new guy running it and I’ll meet him soon, and hopefully he’ll agree with me when it comes down to content on blogs needing to be not so redundant as the deal of the day. See kids: there’s a pretty sick function in WP where you can click “Edit” next to “Publish immediately” and change the date. You can backdate in WP; you can’t in Facebook or Twitter.

So what’s going on in my Twitter world? I’m still posting to @CoupMe so you know how to mention when you’re trying to get in touch

You gotta let me know; I’m still tangled up in blue but now I’m kind of weary to talk about it.. <3

So Twitter shut me down…

Such a whirlwind of the past few weeks! Working on my projects, CoupMe.com (doing their Twitter, engaging, WP Blog, Facebook Fan Page, trying to think up new promos), Lynn-Murphy.com hosted WP blog and her Lynn Murphy TV YouTube page (learn how to knit and craft), Twitter, Fan Page and anything else we can get to make her the next Martha. You gotta listen to her accent and watch her videos, she’s so cute and so Rhode Island )

There are a few other items in the works but these two are the most notable

So, this weekend, my man <3 and I went up to NH and VT. I wanted to hit the Magic Hat parade and we wanted to go shopping. Ended up heading to Ri Ra, which was AWESOME, and I yanked a couple of Magic Hat pint glasses b/c that’s how I roll on my fudget budget.

I came home to my Lilia who, while my roommate was watching her, somehow shredded the corner of my bed and pulled it 1/2way across the room. I have no idea how she did it. And she ate my rug. Well, now she’s going to have to sleep on that 1/2 eaten rug b/c she lost room privelidges and she’s going to be stuck in her kennel days when I’m gone (which is barely) or on the floor on that godforsaken rug. Damnit Lilia! I come home from this dream and the bubble just gets completely popped the SECOND I walked through the door.

Can’t I just have some serenity when I come home? I really love my dog but there’s a fine line between loving her b/c she’s psycho and her making me completely melt down @ times. You do not want to hear me yell @ her when she’s chasing shadows (like she’s doing now) b/c it’s futile. She’ll just keep doing it. So she’s on Clomacalm until further notice. She’s only 1/2way thru the first bottle and the vet said that training would be pointless until she has taken them for at least a month.

So I sit here, trying not to go too crazy off of Twitter (I still have Facebook!!), and trying not to get too wrapped up in Lil. I think there’s more rug I have to sweep up on the floor from yesterday, I just haven’t looked @ it yet, b/c I wen to 10 in Providence to “network” (eat sushi) and got home from the commuter rail pretty late last night.

So this week:

Tonight (Tuesday) Kickass Cupcakes and Alibi team up. 5p and until close

AND there’s a Just Cause Fundraiser going on @ the same time. Donation of $10 plz!

Cupcakes and Karma. What could be sweeter?

There’s actually a Party @ Milky Way in JP but I don’t think I’m ready to bear that 1hr+ T ride from Q-town. Charles/MGH is right up the Red!

Wednesday I signed up for a Dictator Party. What’s a Dictator you say? I’m a Citysearch Dictator which pretty much means if I write well for them, they send me some pretty sick places. This week it’s a Trina’s Hotdog event. Who wants to come with?

Wed there’s also a ONEin3 event.. @ Ft Point. Where’s that? Idk, Google it.

THURSDAY! There’s South St Diner’s $10 Lobster Anniversary DEAL! Yah.
