Sitting on the Shelter Harbor beach in Westerly Rhode Island drinking a Samuel Adams Summer Ale®,
I ponder a particular question as I have done many times in my life. What is it about New England that is both so uniquely American and yet so different from the rest of the country? Surely every part of the United States of America has its special beauty and fine local color, but New England is special in ways I think only New Englanders can truly appreciate. How so? Let us begin with the dawn of another beautiful New England Summer and a day trip to the enchanting little peninsula known as Cape Cod.

From the time Captain John Smith coined the term, New England, back in 1614, this little spur of land has held a lot of history and charm within its small borders for centuries. Once the domain for Native American tribes such as the Wampanoag, who helped to shape the ubiquitous American tradition known as Thanksgiving, “The Cape” (as it is called) now-a-days is home to such lovely little hamlets like Hyannis, Falmouth, Bourne, and Provincetown. With its sandy white beaches and its ferries to the magical Island of Martha’s Vineyard or the nautical islet of Nantucket, there sometimes is nothing finer than sitting outside a little seafood nook overlooking the water, dining on fried whole body clams and drinking a Sam Adams.
Which was exactly what my lovely angel of a wife, Stace (short for Stacey), and I were doing this very summer. We had spent the whole day touring the quaint little shops in Falmouth and Hyannis and now it was time to relax (as if we weren’t already doing that for most of the day) and enjoy a Samuel Adams Summer Ale®.
Do I ever love that beer in the summer! With its light citrus taste married to a zesty lemon flavor and topped off with a hint of pepper for a crisp, full-body beer drinking experience The Summer Ale reminds one of sitting on a tropical island, bathing in the resplendent sun. This beverage typifies the Cape Cod experience without even having left the mainland.
Later, I turn to her and asked, “Where to next Stace?”
“Martha’s Vineyard of course,” was her jovial reply.

The next day we departed from The Steamship Authority in Falmouth headed for Martha’s Vineyard. Now here is a true New England destination. Once the location for the first two Jaws movies (the original directed by Steven Spielberg), “the Vineyard” (as it is commonly referred to) is a great New England “port of call” to visit in the summer.
Stace and I landed in Oaks Bluff and proceeded to explore as much of the island in the short time we had there as we have done many times over the years. Fortunately for us we had friends staying on the island that offered to put us up for the night. We browsed the expensive shops, ate our fill of lobster rolls and clam cakes, enjoyed a dessert of the homemade Mad Martha’s ice cream, and finally made our way over to Edgartown to meet up with our friends.
Now lots can be said for the plethora of New England style restaurants on the Vineyard, but almost invariably most of them will carry on tap Samuel Adams Summer Ale. And when eating a local lobster (yes lobster again, I can’t help it) on the deck of one of these seaside taverns looking at the yachts coming and going in the marina, the only beverage that will do is a beer.
Even our friends were kicking back the Sam Summer Ale in sixteen and twenty-four ounce glasses long after the golden sun had dipped below the horizon and the night’s revels ubiquitously begun.
Of course New England isn’t always about the ocean, as some days later we embarked on the next leg in my wife’s and my odyssey, to Portsmouth New Hampshire.

So…
Wednesday night I went out (technically Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri, Sat). I’m not going to lie; I’ve been on a bit of a bender; but I’ve been meeting some really cool people along the way so why stop now? It’s technically networking and I am gaining a few meetings that will hopefully turn to social media clientèle this way.
Apparently, after doing so and being a bit more than giddy after a night drinking and a conversation that I must have distinguished as better than normal with the man, I felt the need to change my Facebook relationship status to in one. My bad, I was drunk. I didn’t want to press the subject but here I am, finding myself doing so, and getting like 20 comments praising the whole thing.
Great. No pressure or anything on him. I felt kind of stupid when I woke up and realized the damage I had done, but whatever. I didn’t think it was such a big deal.
Except that his best friend–now a mutual friend of ours–texted him (before he got a chance to see it for himself online) and told him the news that I was, in fact, in a relationship. Now, I don’t know the thoughts that were going through his head exactly, but they had something to do with this train of thought (since we spoke Thurs morning, and I got the gist of it).. “She’s in a relationship. I know she’s hanging out with other dudes, and I’ve probably given her more trust that I should be giving, but I have no clue what is happening now and I’m super upset because I’m insecure about my own relationship status so she must be cheating on me.”
Let’s get one thing straight: I don’t cheat. I’m probably the best girlfriend ever and I just probably needed some affirmation. Lucky me, I got the opposite. After our hour+ call on Thursday morning where I thought I had smoothed over everything and told him I was going to keep it up (another error on my part, apparently), I haven’t heard from him since. It’s been a few days.
So last night I made the decision to change back the damn status/drama back to single. Wish it were that easy to go under the radar, but apparently I got a bunch of new comments ranging from “well that was quick” to “better off that way.” I’m not trying to screw this up further people, I just want to be happy and have a healthy relationship. Unfortunately, I publicized it too soon and must have hurt him along the way.
So Monday morning, I figure I’ll write a blog. Here I am, I did nothing wrong, I just find myself without the man I’ve been falling in love with over the past few months 
It kills me that he’s out there, probably not knowing what to say to me.. and I’m hoping the “single” thing (or writing this blog he’ll never find) wasn’t the final nail in my coffin. I suck @ relationships. Somebody plz just hypnotize me or something to make me better @ them. I need to think more like a dude.

I think I spent $6 last night. On tips.
First of all; HUUUUUGE thanks to CitySearch Christine (Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn) for the invite to the ArtBar patio opening last night. They had openbar yumyums sponsored by Bacardi, Sam Adams and Grey Goose and I helped myself to a few glasses of super oakey house chardonnay. There were also tons of finger treats being passed around including lobster rolls (super yum), fried clam rolls, beet teases, SPICY wings, chocolate and berry desserts, gazpacho and more.. I think there was also an olive bar on a large table in the middle of the outdoors crowd but I’m not a big fan of olives so I passed.
Two thumbs up. Nice waterfront location and the crowd had all the quintessential Cambridge folk. The geeks, the artsies, the gaytourage (apparently the group actually calls themself that..) and the swanky preps that look like they just stepped off their yachts, Muffy.
After leaving there.. and we stayed until the end.. totally worth it , we moved along to a tip that we got from Chocolate Chevon Johnson and scurried to Brandon Keith Hair’s opening @ 161 Newbury. I was greeted with champagne and a PUGGLE!!! I did feel short though, b/c of all the tall models flaunting sweet hairstyles. I think there were a few giveaways but we walked in as soon as BK got off the mic. They also had goody bags (and I love my hair goodie bags!), but I guess we missed out on them since it was a pretty full house. Whatev. I got loaded.
I think we went to Joe’s then CityBar afterwards.. but @ this point, I was switching to H2O. Probably a good call. Thanks Tom for the ride home. Hope to see myself tagged in a few pics soon
Coupla side notes since I haven’t posted for about a week: Has anybody else noticed how Comcast screwed with our pirated cable? I mean, I live in a converted one-family so everything’s somehow together but I don’t have a box and now I only get to ch 22. Guess I’m going to have to go to a bar to watch the Bruins defeat the Flyers tonight o.O
AND is anybody else missing Newport? I can’t wait to hang out @ castles and attend yacht afterhours in the harbor again. And go sailing. Watch out JUNE BIRTHDAY MONTH!

I get migraines. They’re not so fun and I know they’re migraines because they come with an aura. I get them at least once a month, probably coinciding with my cycle, but recently I’ve been getting them 2x a month. What brings them on is the bigger issue. I get my migraines from orgasming. I can’t see myself avoiding the pleasure that triggers my pain, but I find myself not being able to let go when I am with him.
It’s hard for me to talk about this topic because it has to do with something so intimate, but I do need to find out if anybody else is experiencing these coital headaches and to see if there’s a way to cure them. They get in the way of work and it can’t be pleasant to be around me when I have a pillow over my head all day and need silence. Let me walk you through them:
It’s not just sex. I can trigger these simply by taking a shower or running. They start with a mild headache and neck stiffness a few days prior and I know it’s only a matter of time. Sometimes I trigger them myself by forcing an O. I’m just so uncomfortable the few days beforehand. I see my aura in the upper left quadrant of my vision; starting out as a pinhole in my vision with a blurry colorful buzzing that spreads throughout my whole vision over the course of 20 minutes. As soon as I see the tiny dot is when I take a vicoprofen and try to eat something since I will be sick later. I don’t like Relpax or Imitrex because they haven’t been able to help me with the pain. When I can see, I feel super drunk, whether I take a pill or not. I don’t think straight and I sound like I’m speaking in tongues, so I just try not to speak. Then the pain kicks in. It’s more of a constant pressure in my brain that just doesn’t go away. It kind of feels like I got a concussion from being kicked in the head and this lasts at least 6 hours. Mid-way through my migraine is what scares me the most though: my left side gets this rolling tingling numbness. It starts with my nose becoming itchy and then my bottom lip. The roof of my mouth gets tingly and my left arm and leg fall asleep. When this happens I try not to cry as it’s futile. Unfortunately, I’m awake this whole time because for some reason, even if I’m super tired, I can’t sleep when I have a migraine. It’s just not fun and I’m sure there are others somewhere out there on this wide internet that suffers from the same thing that may have an option for me.
I don’t know if it’s because I’m overheating, my heart is beating faster, or some other variable I just can’t put my finger on. I just know I need them to stop. I’ve abstained from drinking for a month, taking birth control (if you suffer migraines with aura, you are 9x more likely to suffer a stroke if you’re on estrogen–per my neurologist) and quit smoking years ago when I thought that was the issue. I’ve been suffering from them since 2007 and although migraines run in my family, I’m the only one who seems to get the aura. I’ve also gotten fired from a position because I kept getting them and I’ve gotten a few at work from what I think were panic attacks. I got screwed by an IT company in Raynham when I tried to apply for unemployment back in 2008 because they blamed letting me go on unauthorized internet use. You’re a damn IT company, we need to communicate via the internet to sell! Because of that failure, I lost my car and I’m still struggling trying to catch up.
In January of 2010, I decided to start my own company, x10industries, specializing in social media marketing, personal branding and website design. Although it’s a long hard road and I’m still not really making much of an income, I am able to pay the bills and I can work at my own pace and not worry about calling in sick so often because of this disease. I enjoy paying it forward with my BeantownSocial.com, posting events and fun things to my calendar and writing pieces for various companies. I’m still playing around with figuring out how this is all going to earn me an income, but I am starting to build my book of business when it comes down to social media. I also just picked up my first international company!
Things are just starting to pick up for me and I have developed more of a positive mindset than I’ve ever had in my life. I truly enjoy working with the multitude of random public figures, companies and ideas and I’m eager to see what the next chapter of my life will bring. I just wish it could be pain-free…
